Is it Better For Your Cat to Be Home Alone Or at a Cattery?

Is it OK for a cat to be left alone in the house? Many cat owners will let their cat go off and get the rest they need. This does not mean that they do not need the attention. In fact, they need all the help they can get to deal with any issues that may arise.

If your cat is very healthy and you are able to guarantee a safe, cozy environment, leaving your cat alone for a short time should not lead to major concerns. A box of food, water, and a few litter boxes is usually all that is needed. However, if your cat has separation anxiety or other health concerns, trying to get him or her alone can prove to be overwhelming. Kittens are especially vulnerable to this problem because they are very mobile and can become restless when they are left alone for long periods of time. Therefore, it is vital that you understand the potential hazards of leaving your kittens and cats alone in your home.

There are two main scenarios that can lead to concerns about leaving your cat home alone. The first situation occurs when your cat becomes too used to being alone that he or she begins to feel abandoned or like they are being neglected. This leads to stress and frustration. If left alone for longer than is necessary, a cat can develop psychological problems that make them afraid to be left alone. This can include depression, eating problems, or an extreme form of stress.

The second main scenario that leads to concerns about leaving your cat home alone is when you leave the house for work in the morning and do not return for several hours. If you return, you will begin to hear screaming, meowing, and other disturbances from your cat. They may begin to howl, claw, or pounce on you in an attempt to get your attention and get back home. In these cases, it is better to leave the cat home alone until the morning comes.

In addition to the main reason of concern over leaving your cat home alone, there is also another equally valid concern regarding cat companionship; that is, the companionship you receive from your cattery. Kittens and cats that come from a boarding kennel or cattery are significantly more secure and have a much better chance of living happy, healthy lives if they are in a secure environment where their natural instincts and behaviors are supported and reinforced. Your kitty will learn where they should eat, sleep, and roam based upon what their natural companions do. A good cattery will give you examples of the things they expect of their companions and how they are expected to behave.

The best way to ensure that your cat remains your cat home alone is by choosing a good cattery with a sitter. Not only does a sitter make sure that your kitty gets plenty of outside time and socialization with other cats and kittens, but they will also keep an eye on your kitty when you are away at work or running errands. A sitter can even help you out with everyday tasks such as shopping or meal preparation. The benefits of having a sitter accompany your kitty are twofold. First, it ensures that your cat gets enough time outdoors and secondly, it gives you peace of mind when you are away from home.
